   Azary Messerer

Azary Messerer was born in 1939. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Foreign Languages in 1962, and worked as a journalist on Radio Moscow, the weekly newspaper "Za Rubezhom," and the magazine "Rovesnik". After spending about three and a half years as a refusenik, he emigrated to the USA in 1981. Azary received his MA degree and PhD in Media Ecology from the New York University. Subsequently, he worked as a teacher in New York high schools and as a lecturer in several universities, which included New York University, Boston University, Dartmouth College, among others. At present, he is teaching Writing and English Literature at Touro College. He published a number of essays in American magazines, both in Russian and English. As a member of New York Piano Society, he participates in concerts at the libraries and universities of New York, as well as of other states.
