Yekaterina Korotkova-Grossman, Vasily Grossman’s daughter, was born in Kiev. Like her father and grandfather before her, she went to the coal-mining region known as the Donbass, or Donets Basin, after completing her studies. There she worked as an English teacher in a mining village. Later, in Moscow, she worked as a translator of English literature. She has herself written works of fiction set in both historical and contemporary Russia, and she is currently writing a memoir of her years in Tashkent during the Second World War.
