Betsy Hulick about herself: I act and write plays and live in New York City; I have had a
strong interest in Russia and Russian literature since my school
days, probably because Russia was then the Enemy. I have
translated Chekhov's major plays and vaudevilles (Uncle Vanya and
Other Plays, Bantam World Classics) and my version of Gogol’s
Inspector General was produced on Broadway; I have also translated
Marriage; here and there the odd poem has appeared in a journal.
My book of drawings that tell a story, A Fable for Beginners or,
Only the Buttons Are Real, is available at St. Mark's bookstore. I
have had fellowships at the VCCA, Yaddo, and Ragdale, as well as
abroad.
