Carol Ermakova studied German and Russian language and literature at St. Andrews University, later gaining an MA in translation from Bath University. She first visited Russia in 1991, then returned a year later to teach English in St. Petersburg, where she also met and married her husband, Dmitry. More recently, Carol spent two years in Moscow working as a teacher and translator. She has travelled widely throughout the CIS.
Carol currently lives in the North Pennines and works as a free-lance translator.
